Coronavirus on CMU campus

Coronavirus is one of the biggest world wide pandemics since the Spanish flu. It has taken the lives of people all around the globe but that isn’t the biggest part. The biggest part about this pandemic is that it has spread all around the world and people are being infected at rate that the world hasn’t seen in a long time. The last pandemic to have been seen like this one is being taught in history books.

With that being said, there haven’t been a lot of cases in the United States compared to other countries around the world. Even inside the United States the outbreak has mainly been concentrated to the west coast and in the major cities.

Michigan has yet to have any confirmed case however CMU has been vigilant and continue to monitor the coronavirus in Michigan. CMU is quite fortunate in the location of the university that it is quite isolated in terms of cities around Mount pleasant. Other universities haven’t been so fortunate. Pennsylvania has already shut down 4 universities because of coronavirus being confirmed near those universities and many people are speculating that Michigan might be next.

One of the biggest problems about this outbreak in terms of students especially at CMU is because we have spring break. You might ask why? Spring break for college students is the time to get friends together go somewhere warm or to a major city or even another country in order either drink or just make memories before the semester ends. I personally know some people that are currently in California, Germany, and several other places with many confirmed cases of coronavirus. This poses serious risk not only to the university but to every university because people are leaving the university and possibly bringing back the coronavirus to CMU.

With it being spring break, presidential primaries in Michigan tomorrow, universities need to have a strong look to make sure that no one is being put at risk and from everything that the CMU administration has been telling us it seems that they are very aware of the situation and are ready to act quickly if need be.
